Keep Our Kids Safe

The scandal of alleged child sexual abuse by a former employee in the football program of Penn State University, as well as the alleged cover up by individuals in the administration, has rocked the nation over the past weeks.  That the alleged abuse and cover up involve beloved public figures with years of tenure in trusted positions of educating and mentoring young people begs the question, Who can be trusted with our children?

This is exactly why we have a child and youth safety policy at Light of Christ.  We want to protect the children entrusted to us.  Period.  We run ongoing background checks on staff and volunteers.   We have windows in our classrooms.  We have a computerized check-in system.  We train volunteers, even though many of the volunteers have been trained before.  Children and volunteers are not to be in a 1-1 situation together.  Multiple volunteers from different families are scheduled to serve at the same time.

What can you do to help us?  Pray for the safety of our - and all - children.  Pray for our staff and volunteers, and support them as they follow the safety policy.  Keeping kids safe and teaching them that God loves them are priorities at Light of Christ.  We need your help to make this possible.
