Staff Goes Missional

The Light of Christ staff recently volunteered at the Goodwill drop-off site across the street from the church.  We had a great time meeting Ballantyne residents as they dropped off goods.  It was also a joy to get to know the two Goodwill workers who served with us.  They are, after all, some of our closest neighbors as they work just a few feet away from our parking lot.

We discovered that one of the workers was from Ecuador, where his father serves as the President of the country’s version of the Supreme Court.  No joke!  He’s working and studying in the US until he reaches the minimum age to follow in his father’s legal footsteps.  The other worker was a Charlotte native that is interested in going to mortuary school.

Serving God in the community certainly opens doors to meeting some amazing people.  Who does God have in store for you to meet next?

  1. Hmm??? What about being a fast food missionary, or a Starbucks missionary? Maybe you could try this? Or maybe I should try this when I have the chance. Have each of your staff stop off at a different place either on their way to work, their lunch hour, or on their way home. They should spend time in the place alone. Don't go with friends. People won't approach a crowd. Then have them take 15-20 minutes to read their Bible. They don't have to spend a lot of money. They could just get a cup of coffee. Then during each week's staff meeting carve out a little time to discuss what God has done in their lives through this ministry. It may take a couple of weeks, but it is a great way to get to know the community, and for the staff to share God. What do you think?

  2. Great idea, Richard! We have been encouraging the congregation to do something similar to what you suggest. Some have taken up the challenge and have blessed people at McDonald's, Chick-Fil-A, Target, etc. It is cool to see God at work in the everyday world.

  3. This is my favorite type of mission! I especially like the part about being alone. I have met some wonderful people this way!
