The Book That Can't Wait

With e-readers being all the recent hype, I was glad to discover something novel in the “real” book industry (pun intended, couldn’t resist). Buenos Aires-based bookshop and publisher Eterna Cadencia recently released El Libro que No Puede Esperar, which translates as The Book That Cannot Wait. It is an anthology of new fiction from Latin American authors printed in ink that disappears after two months of opening the book. The more the text is exposed to light the faster it disappears. The ink is made from a secret formula.

Pretty cool stuff, huh?

Argentinian customers seem to think so. The first printed batch sold out on the first day. What customers will do with their leather-bound books with thick (and eventually) blank pages remains to be seen. Sophie Barnes, the springwise.com author whose article I am referencing, suggests re-using them as high quality journals. It will be interesting to see how long or short-lived the new fad lasts. One thing is for sure, customers will be reading with a sense of urgency!

This Sunday at Light of Christ we will continue The Story sermon series in which we explore the best-selling book of all time, the Holy Bible. Rest assured, the ink on its pages will not disappear. The Good News of scripture is eternal. We read it with a sense of urgency, though, to discover how our everyday life stories fit into God’s story. I hope that you will join us to discover your part in God’s masterpiece!

Guard Your Marriage #12

Adultery does not just happen. It is the culminating act of many tiny steps of unfaithfulness. We are examining these in order to help safeguard marriages. We offer word-for-word quotes from real people who wrecked marriages (theirs and others). This information comes to us at great expense.

Arranging Secret Meetings
"By now we both were so  far gone that we started meeting secretly at the mall parking lot.  I know now how foolish this was, but I was driven by something other than good sense at the time."

"We started arranging to work evenings on the same nights, then we would leave early and meet each other in the dark parking lot."

"I started making sure he knew my travel schedule so we could attend the same conferences.  We still weren't involved physically at that time, but there was such excitement and romance to it all...even the secrecy seemed to make it more exciting."

"She would sometimes call me just before lunch and we'd sneak through a drive-up together, and then spend the rest of my lunch hour talking quietly to each other."

Shark Bait

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.   Philippians 4:6-7

Okay, maybe you can be anxious about wearing a Speedo in a kayak while being chased by a shark.  Nah.  Jesus even has that covered!

Having a tough week?   Join us on Sunday for some encouragement, hope, and shark repellent.

Come to Mayberry

Come to Mayberry this summer!  I will lead a small group on Wednesday nights, 8/8 - 8/29, from 6:30 - 7:30 PM in the Light of Christ sanctuary.  Each week we will watch an episode of The Andy Griffith Show, and then discuss the biblical principles involved and their application in our lives.  Adults, youth, and older-aged elementary children are welcome.

Guard Your Marriage #11

Adultery does not just happen. It is the culminating act of many tiny steps of unfaithfulness. We are examining these in order to help safeguard marriages. We offer word-for-word quotes from real people who wrecked marriages (theirs and others). This information comes to us at great expense.

Inventing Excuses to Call or Meet
"I started figuring out ways I could drop off something at her house when her husband was gone.  He and I knew each other and I would always return borrowed tools in the afternoon when I knew she'd be there alone."

"I would wait until the end of the work day.  Then I'd call him just before closing time about something I'd made up as a 'business question' and we'd talk."

"The more entangled we got, the more I planned times where he and I could practice together.  We started meeting more often."

"She started arranging her schedule so that her husband dropped her off at committee meetings.  I would hang around and offer to take her home, acting with as much nonchalance as I could muster up."
