Thankful

I am thankful for the Light of Christ congregation for purchasing new playground equipment for at-risk children of the Parkview community in west Charlotte, and for planning to feed the homeless at the Parkview Community Foundation center on Thanksgiving day.  God is good!

How To Fight Child Trafficking #3

I doubt you want to know about the horrors of children being abused, sold, traded, exploited, and raped.  I don't blame you.  It is horrible stuff.  I hate it.  But it is still happening.  By stumbling upon this blog, you are at least aware that the issue exists.  You can click away from the page or you can join the fight!

Glad that you are still with me.  In order to fight child trafficking, we must first understand the enemy.  Click here for an introduction.  Good for you for having the courage to educate yourself about child trafficking!  Explore the links on the right side of the blog for more information and for ways you can join the battle.

Cholera in Haiti

In the wake of the earthquake and Hurricane Tomas, cholera continues to spread through Haiti.  Light of Christ joins with other North Carolina churches to sponsor a church and school in Bayonnais in the north of Haiti.  Pastor Actionnel Fleurisma reports that cholera has spread there, and that the school has been closed.  This is the most worried we have seen Pastor Actionnel.  After all that he has endured over the years in Haiti, the pastor's words speak volumes.  We are seeking how to help.  As we do so, let us keep the people of Haiti in our prayers.

The Great Recession

The Great Recession officially ended 16 months ago.  We currently are in what is being called a "flat" recovery.  The unemployment rate has averaged 9.5% for the past 14 months.  In other words, times are still tough.

So, where is God during these trying economic times?  We'll explore this great question over the next few weeks at Light of Christ with the Recession Proof series.  Join us in person or listen along online at http://www.locumc.org/.
